The Woody Strut Band began in 1974 as a club & party band. Pictured left to right - Mike Wiggins, Sid Dooley, Barbara Miller, Kenny Bigbee and Bobby Matthews. As time went by, our friend and band mate Bobby Matthews passed away and we lost touch with Barbara Miller. The band broke up in the early 80's and we all went different directions. By chance, after 40+ years we were able to get the band back together and are having a great time playing together again with the current 3 original members of The Woody Strut Band.
While still in school, we played nightclubs and parties. Age was just a number and most club owners didn't ask ours. There was a time when there was a club around every corner and a band in every bar. We stayed very busy playing one-nighters, company and private parties, school dances and were a house band for awhile. Disco was the only thing that slowed us down....But we loved wearing those shiny shirts.
We're older now, not necessarily wiser but we have all been playing in different bands and venues over the years and have ended up basically where we started. That being said, we are all experienced musicians and available for your private or company parties, meetings, or nightclub entertainment. Based on top of beautiful Sand Mountain in North Alabama, we play a wide selection of dance, classic rock and classic or new country music. We were told by one of our audience members that we were a pretty good 5 piece band but a damn good 3 piece band. There's a saying musicians have, "We don't get paid for playing our music, that's the fun part, we get paid for traveling, loading, unloading and setting up the equipment."
It's all about the music and if you like music as much as we do, we know we can become your new favorite band.
Oh, and people are always asking us "Which one of you is Woody?" Well none of us. Woody is our cartoon logo you see on the drums.
